when to drop to one day sleep?
« on: January 21, 2008, 06:25:04 am »
Hi I have an 11month old son and he is currently having 2 day sleeps but either the morning one or the afternoon one is a struggle to get him to go to sleep. Is he telling me that he is ready for one day sleep?
His routine at the moment is as follows;
6.30am Wake and reflux meds
7am Milk
8am Breakfast
9.30am Sleep 1.5-2hrs
11.30am Lunch
1pm Milk
2pm Sleep (struggling to get him to sleep here, if he does only for 45mins)
3.30pm Snack
5pm Dinner
6.30pm Milk
7pm Sleep
Really confused what to do, whether I keep him up longer in the morning and have an early lunch at around 11.30am and then put him down for a few hours?
When do bubs normally drop to one sleep?
Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hello,
I've haven't been through this yet, but the only thing I can see is maybe trying to increase his awake time before his 2nd nap? I've read other places on the boards that their lo's seem to be able to handle more A time in the afternoon. It could be the case since it has been harder to get him down and they also say that 45 min. naps can mean not enough A time.
Otherwise I know there are some that go down to 1 nap as early as 11 mo, but I think I'd experiment with his A time first.

i'm no expert but it appears that he is getting enough sleep for his age. (11.5 hours at night and at least 2,5 hours during the day) His am nap is really long which means that he is not tired enough for the pm nap.

you have two choices

1) keep the morning nap long, extand a time to 2:30pm and give a catnap (45 minutes)
2) shorten am nap to 1 hour and give a longer pm nap at 2Pm as he should be tired enough.

At this age my lo was doing 1 hours in the am and 2 hours in the pm and recently we went down to 45 minutes in the am and moved up the pm nap and she has 2 hours.

thanks for your suggestions.  just when you think you have a routine down pat the little bubs change their minds.
i have tried keeping him up longer in the afternoon but he either gets over tired and won't sleep or only sleeps the 45mins.  yesterday he didn't sleep in the afternoon but then went to sleep at 3.30pm until 5.15pm.  i know its too late but he wouldn't have lasted until 7pm.
hard to know what to do really.
