won't sleep when out and about
« on: February 13, 2008, 14:59:42 pm »
Hi there

My lo is 4 mths old and now on 4 hour easy which on the whole is going very well.  The only time we have a problem is when we go out. For some reason he won't sleep when in pushchair, too much going on maybe.  Unusually we have had good weather in Scotland for the past few days so have been going out more.  He had ended up really cranky cos won't sleep.  Any one else have this issue?

yep!! as soon as we hit the 4 month mark he stopped napping in his carseat or stroller. so now i schedule pretty much everything so that we can be home for his naps so he has them in his crib. otherwise he just won't sleep. i think they're too 'aware' & interested in everything going on around them. i'm pretty sure its normal ... (but it sure is annoying!)

Me too! Not what you want to hear I guess but I also schedule everything around naps. In the buggy he will occasionally sleep but I have to walk continuously on rough pavement (!!), in the carseat he yells and squirms.  It gets much easier when he drops a nap or two and good news is your lo will prob be doing that by summer! :)

Do you have a sling or baby carrier?  Nate would never sleep in the pushchair now (well, he might but only if we went for a good walk away from other people, not when there's lots going on) but he still sleeps in the car, so we usually time our trips around that.  I think he'd probably still sleep in his sling if I held him facing towards me so he wasn't distracted by everything going on.

My lo is the same way! He only sleeps in his crib. If we do go out, I will put him in a sling or front carrier. That mostly does the trick. I also will swaddle him in his carseat. I recommend the SwaddleMe blankets because they have a hole for the seatbelt.
For now, we mostly stay at home though. It's just too stressful to have him overtired and overstimulated!

I've got a baby carrier. I'll give that a go.  Hopefully that will do the trick as I want to be able to go out and about and get him some fresh air.

Thanks ladies.

Aah, you need a different one, Nate is over 20lb and I can carry him fine (my 2 year old too if I wanted!)  ;) :)

Try a HotSling.  Go to HotSling . Com  and you will see it.  That is what Tyler is in in my avater.  It is really easy and can hold up to 30 lbs or something.

Hi there, I carried my DD in the ergo carrier www. ergobabycarrier. com until I got pregnant with DS when she was 13 months old. She weight 29 lbs at 12 months. She could sleep there but not in her stroller or the car seat. I bought the ergo when she was 5 months and 26 lbs because she was too heavy for me in any other front carrier with the idea to carry her on my back which I did occasionally but in the ergo she was not too heavy even in front. I would not recommend the Ergo for under 5 months old babies though.

I use a wrap, mine is a Hoppediz and was recommended by another BW mum.  I think the Moby wrap is similar.  I'll add a piccie in a minute.

Sorry I'm stupid, I'm on a new computer and don't have any photos of me carrying Nate on this one.  Here's the website:
