Less Napping....is this normal?
« on: February 08, 2008, 17:39:26 pm »
Generally my lo naps 1.5 hours and occasionally 2 hours but the last 2 weeks or so he just wont sleep longer then 1 hour.He isnt cranky or seem tired and hes sleeping through the night(well except hes teething so he has a few night wakings now and then).I am not a big sleeper and neither is my older son so maybe he is just going to follow in our foot steps. But i am still wondering if its normal?

Here is our schedule ...

8am wake and bottle (7-8oz)
845am breakfast (2tbsp cereal and 1tbsp fruit)
1030am nap
1130am wake
12pm bottle (7-8oz)
230 nap
330pm wake
4pm bottle (7-8oz)
5pm supper...fingers foods...usually a few pieces of veggie and a few pieces of fruit (not much actually goes in...lol)
6pm bath and storytime
645pm bottle (7-8oz) and bed by 7

We were struggling with the 3rd nap of the day so finally i gave up fighting and pushed his bedtime back to 7 instead of 8pm.Maybe this has something to do with his shorter naps? But he does sleep all night.Who knows...lol

Christina, if he's sleeping all night then I'm inclined to think that he's just doing what he needs to do and there's isn't really a problem. If it's not broken, don't fix it!  :)  JMHO

My 7 month old dd has just started doing the exact same thing over the past week or 2. Her reliable 1.5 hrs naps have reduced to 1 hr but at the same time she has just started sleeping much better at night (not sleeping through but closer than she has ever been!) - so maybe it is the same story with her.

Are you keeping A times the same even though his naps are shorter?

Must be something with the age! My LO is doing this too! I've been getting an hour for his morning nap and cross my finger for 1.5 in the afternoon! ;D

I have tried to keep to our routine so A times are usually the same.

I am getting really confused with this short napping as she seems tired and is yawning quite early on (sometimes after 1 hr) but I am trying to keep her up at least to have her feeds and then often by the time I get her back to sleep it has been 2.5 - 3 hrs.

Her nights have been so variable and really dont seem to have any relation to her day sleep!
