My lo just turned 12 months and has previously been a great sleeper - goes down easily, and has slept thru since about 8 months.  For the past several nights (including naps), she will stay quietly in the crib for a few moments, but then gets very upset and begins to scream and is unable to fall asleep.  If I do not go in to get her, she gets incredibly worked up and is very hard to calm, and we end up resorting to bringing her in bed with us (which we have never done previously).  We have also rocked her to sleep (also never done previously), but when she wakes in the night she cries again.  These are not habits I want to begin at this age, especially since I know she is capable of falling asleep on her own.  Nothing has changed in terms of her routine, but she has been stuck to me like glue for the past few days, so I'm thinking it may have to do with separation anxiety.

What do I do?  I am afraid we are creating bad habits and am wishing for my good sleeper back!  I've read a little about the WI/WO method - is it recommended at this point?

Any help you can offer would be much appreciated!  Thanks...

Hi there

I am thinking maybe it has something to do with the 2-1 nap switch and she might not be tired enough when she's put down for a nap. Can you please post her routine

She could also be going through SA and she could also be teething and waking up at night from pain. You can still do wi/wo when they are going through SA... but it might just be that her routine needs tweaking.

Post back & we'll help you out
Layla :)

Hi Layla - thanks for your post!  I've posted our general routine below, although it can vary a bit.  She has always been a pretty short napper, and as I said before, this routine has worked really well up until a few days ago!  :)

6:30 wake & bottle
8:00 breakfast
10:30 nap
11:30 wake & bottle
12:30 lunch
3:30 nap
4:00 wake & bottle
5:30 dinner
6:30 wind down/bath/quiet play
7:15 bed

Thanks so much...
