I don't know what to do......my 9 week old son has not slept all day.....he wasn't cranky even just did not want to sleep.

So now he is so overtired he will not go to sleep tonight.  He screams when he is in his crib but will stop as soon as me or my DH holds him....I think I may have to cave and have him sleep in my arms until he falls asleep....I don't know what else to do.

Advise?  Please!!

Oh Hugs Heather!!!  Yup, just let him fall asleep in your arms just so he sleeps.  He is sooooooo overtired now he just needs to get to sleep.  Your lo is so young yet and you can start sleep training once he's gotten a little caught up on sleep.  BTW he is ADORABLE!

Thanks Melissa,

He normally is so good about napping and going to bed but I have no idea what happened today, he just had no interest in sleeping at all.  I just hope tomorrow he has better naps because I know what a vicious cycle it can turn into if he doesn't sleep well during the day or at night!!

Heather...

I'm so sorry he's had a difficult day. Yes, by all means, do what you need to do to get him some sleep tonight.  It may take a few days to get him back on track.  What Melissa said is so true! Your lo is so young. you have plenty of time to sleep train. You aren't going to 'mess' anything up!  Do what you need to do for all of you to get some sleep!

I agree 100%. Do whatever you have to do to get your LO caught up. My son is 6mo. and he had a horrible week of naps last week. By Friday he was so OT, I couldn't believe the sight I saw. His eyes were just puffy and red. It was horrible. Saturday I had to catch him up. This is what I had to resort to for his first nap...

9-9:25 Crib
Awake
10-10:30 alseep with me in my bed while DS1 watched a movie
Awake
10:45-11:30 alseep again in my bed with me next to him still
Awake
11:35-12:30 asleep again in my bed...w/ me
Awake- could have slept more but DS1 was getting antsy.

HIs second nap was 2.5 hours in his crib by himself, straight through. THis would have never happened if I didn't have the objective of giving him sleep any way possible. He knows what he has been taught, but it's hard for him to remember since he was sooooo  OT. YOur LO is a bit younger, but you shouldn't worry about AP from time to time. If he basically follows the same routine, then a small bump on the road won't be too disruptive.

Thanks so much ladies for all your advise.  He ended up falling asleep after 2 hours of trying starting at 7pm, he fell to sleep around 9:15pm. I still did a DF (reluctantly, I was afraid he would wake), then he slept right through until 4:00am w/o waking once, which is not the norm for him, so he was obviously very tired.

Today was alot better, two 2 hour naps today....yeah!!

Thanks again ladies for the reassurance. :-*

Glad he slept for a good stretch last night and that his naps were long today.   :)
