7.5 month old awake for 2-3 hours in the night HELP
« on: February 28, 2008, 19:26:26 pm »
Hi, Our little baby was perfect sleeper for the first 5.5 months she slept through the night from day one (10-12hrs). For the first 6 weeks I woke her up to feed every 5 hours in the night.  When I introduced solids she began waking up in the night. Once she sees you in the room she wants to interact and does not want to sleep. We have rocked her, pat/sshh, pu/pd and even let her cry for 8 mins last night. LAst few nights she sleeps as long as you hold her but the minute you put her down she starts to whine and then full blown cry. Dh and I have started switching after one hour of duty but we are both grumpy, tired and unsure of what to do to correct this.  This is her schedule
6-7 wake up bf
7-8 cereal
9:30-10 sleep
11 - 11:30 wake up on a good day and bf
12 veggie and fruit
2 sleep (if her first nap was short she sometimes goes down sooner for 2n nap (1-1:20 and wake up around 2)
3 wake up and bf
if its a short morning nap she sometimes catnaps here for half an hour
5 cereal
6:30 bath
7 sleep and bf she often nurses to sleep her trying to keep her awake
10 dream feed

she wakes up between 1:00 and 2:00 am and stays awake for those 2-3 hours.

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED this and what do you think we should do? She is always gassy when she wakes up passing gas on and off for at least 20 mins.

Oh yes...when I introduced solids I had a lot of NWs.  It sounds like she's having a few issues digesting perhaps...gas can hurt a lot!  So you could take her off the solids and try again in a few weeks OR you could vary the solids she is having and see if that helps.  What are you giving her at the moment?  Some baby's can't tolerate cereals very well...maybe cut that out for a few days and see if she improves.

Re your routine - at this age A time should be between 2 - 2.25 hours.  So there may be some OT issues creeping in when her day naps aren't as you would hope for.  I'd think about limiting her A time to 2.25/2.5 hours between all naps...so if she wakes early, the am nap is 2.25/2.5 hours from wake up.

What do you think?
