Advice on how to pump for DF only
« on: March 06, 2008, 16:56:32 pm »
I would like to start pumping so that my husband can give our ds the DF at night, but I am unsure of when to pump and how much etc. Could anyone give me advice on how to proceed? Thanks

How old is your lo?  I pumped for the df from the beginning (I know, not typically advised).  I was doing single sided pumping, so I'd feed on one side and pump on the other, just til I had enough for a df (we started at 4 oz I think), then I would pump at night while my dh was doing the df.  I'd also pump an hour after the bedtime feed if I needed to get a bit extra.  HTH

Hi, Another thing you could do is pump an after a feed even if its just 1/2 - 1oz  during the day should make enough for a df. once you have the first feed you can then pump at the df for the next night, or if it works out ok then do the daytime pumping again.

I often pump in a morning as I'm quite full then (Zac feeds on one and I pump the other at the same time), it is meant to be easier to get the milk out if the baby is feeding as well.

I also pump at about 9.30pm because otherwise I get so full in the night. Doing this gets enough to freeze some also. I like to know I've got some spare for if I go out or whatever.
