Am I preparing his food wrong???
« on: May 07, 2008, 00:57:11 am »
My little man is 9 months old and for awhile now I have been cooking his food for the week all in one go and then freezing it.  I do this for a couple of reasons.  1) when me and ds are home alone together he is like a leech.  He is quite happy playing but as long as I am in the room he is in.  If I go to another room he has to follow and will cry otherwise. (I don't like him being in the kitchen with the hot stuff) 2.)  He is terrified of the blender so the less I use it the less traumatic for him. 3.) I'm not much of a cook my dp does most of the cooking for me and him.

Generally what I make for Riley is a Vegetable puree mixed with heaps of veges and I also cook fish, meat and chicken and puree them also.  I then put the pureed chicken and veges in a container, meat and veges in a container and fish and veges in a container and then freeze them taking out whatever I want to feed him for the night on that day.  I also cook up singularly rice or pasta to mix in with it on the night.  And I give him either carrots, cheese, peas, potato, pumpkin etc fresh in cubes for him to chew on and feed to himself.

Is it wrong what I am doing???  It is important to me that he eats healthily and I see everyone else makes up like individual recipes for their kids dinners and I wonder with a leech child and DP very rarely home how do you get a chance to do that.  Am I meeting Riley's needs with what I am doing for his dinners or do I need to cook him individual meals for him every night.

Looks like a plan to me!!
When you're soaring through the air, I'll be your solid ground.  Take every chance you dare.  I'll still be there when you come back down.

He's getting a variety, sounds very balanced to me.  Nowadays (15 mos) she mostly eats what I'm eating but at that age I did very similar to what you are doing - but less organized.  Sometimes she does refuse "recipes" but will eat the elements separately, so often if I'm not feeling like working thru it, I'll just offer the plain ingredients - veggies, meat, etc separately.

Of course, my dd also likes to eat frozen veggies raw from the package, so we're weird.
