Transporting foods
« on: March 10, 2008, 16:01:38 pm »
HI

Well need some advice please.

I am making my babies foods in ice cube trays. So when I have been going out I have been taking an icecube and putting it into a container and keeping it cool then warming it when we needed it.

Is this right? What should I do?

Someone has told me that their HV has informed them that you cannot do this as bacertia thrives, what do I do? How do I transport baby food after its been frozen??

Agggggh!

What I do is take them out of the freezer the night before and let them thaw fully in tupperware on the counter. I actually give it to ds cold and did the same with dd. If you are going to reheat then I would make sure it has been fully thawed first.

Oh I don't know, I did it exactly as you have described. I still freeze small amounts of pre prepared food for DD (she is 2 now) and still do the same. I also defrost and then heat in the microwave straight from the freezer.

I am not sure of the exact ins and outs of the bacteria etc but we did it this way too  :-*

Hi,

Thanks for your replies

I phoned my Health Visitor up and asked about it, explained I transport it in a cooler bag and she said it is totally fine to do that as its like keeping it in the fridge to defrost slowly.

Fiona - I think Ill take your advice and defrost it over night in the fridge and then take it out in the cooler bag the next day :-D

The Health Visitor said it's only if you leave things in the warm all day long and then feed them, which I had already guessed was not what you would do anyway Lol.
