Worried about being stuck on small teats
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:55:32 am »
My lo is 5.5months and is still using a size 1 teat, is this normal? I thought a while back he was ready for the 2nd stage ones but it seemed there was too much milk in his mouth and it was coming out the sides. I switched back and he still seems fine on these, but the stage 2 ones say 3+ months so shouldn't he be on these by now? Im thinking as he has just started the odd bit of rice cereal that you are supposed to introduce a sippy cup, but I fear the flow will be far too fast for him.

If he seems fine, don't worry about it.  Some babies don't switch at all, others do but much more slowly than the "recommended" ages.  Then you've got those lo who switch much earlier.  Just follow his lead.  Just as with the different bottle types, there are so many different sippy cups out there.  Don't worry too much about this, he will eventually be able to drink a faster flow of liquid.

Rachel never changed from the newborn teats, she was still on them when I threw the bottles away at a year old.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I went to see my friends 12 week old today (6 weeks prem) and she's on the stage 3 already! It made me feel like Callum is lagging behind.
