Dreamfeeds - Should we be doing it?
« on: March 17, 2008, 10:01:11 am »
My LO is 10 weeks and I have only just found out about dream feeds as i'm only part way through the book.  Should all babies have this dreamfeed?  If so what should I be doing?

Will this help her sleep through on a more consistant basis?

When ds was younger I did give him a dream feed but then it got to the stage that I couldnt be bothered staying up late to give him it so had an early night instead and fed him when he woke in the night.  It is an option but you dont have to dreamfeed if you dont want to/if it doesnt suit you.

Hi there,

I personally love the DF....I'm a bit of a night owl so I don't mind staying up until 11pm, I DF at 10:30pm.  My DS is 14 weeks old and I put him to bed at 7pm on average and the DF takes him to about 5:30-6am on average.  Depending on how tired I am.....I may or may not put him right back to bed, though it is getting harder to put him back to bed as he is becoming more awake after sleeping for so long (hence why I am up right now!!).....I'm trying to get him to the 7am mark, so I hope he will get there soon!  :)

hi it's not that all babies should be dreamfed. but many moms find it helpful as it may help your baby sleep longer period at night without waking up to feed.

what is your current routine? how are your LO's nights?

Thanks for all the advice, my LO's nights are mostly good than bad, I tend to feed a last feed anytime from 7 - 9pm and she can sleep to 4/5/6 or even 7.  Very rarely 3am.  Lately she has been mostly 4 - 7am but then every once in a while we get 1 odd one of 3am.  She feeds in the day every 4 hours around 6oz each feed.

well, you could try with the DF at around 10 or 10:30pm, the same amount that she takes at the night feed. feed in the dark, without waking her. if it works- than great. but if it doesn't, don't worry and just don't continue with it. it may take some time for your LO to get used to eat [I mean at the beginning she may not want to take it at all or would still wake at night] so if you decide to do DF, give it at least a week before you decide if it's working or not.
