What's the cause???? Going batty!!!!
« on: March 19, 2008, 02:01:13 am »
I need some insight to this.....my 26 month old DS has been having a hard time going to sleep at night for the few months.  We have had a bedtime routine since we started BW when he was 4 months old.  So I'm stumped as to why he won't go to sleep.  I've tried shortening his naps to prevent him from making up the sleep he lost at night and have tried no naps in the day but he still has a hard time going to bed.  He looks tired but he doesn't want to sleep.  He'll either jump on his bed, climb out of bed and get out of his room.  He's even cried to the point of vomiting.  I've tried lying down with him in bed....doesn't work.  Tried WI/WO and it works on/off but still takes upto 1030pm to fall asleep.

Our nighttime routine starts around 730-8pm for his bath and bedtime story, etc and we are usually done by 830-9pm but it takes him until 1030 to fall asleep.  WHY?!?!??!? What am I not doing right that is making him stay up?  In the past, he was asleep by 830-930pm.  It's driving me crazy that he's sleeping this late.

He's transitioned into the big bed since last year and weaned off of the paci a couple of months ago.  And yes we have a newborn DD too.  So what do I need to fix with DS's sleeping issues?

Hi I am sorry you're posted hasn't been asnwered for so long :-[

The way I read it is that the later bedtimes started when he was weaned off the paci?

Alot of it might also have something to do with the arrival of the new baby.... I think the best thing to do is try to spend a longer time with him at bedtime, more cuddles, books and songs. He's probably feeling a little insecure at the moment with the new baby.

What time does he wake & what time is the nap? If the nap is too late in the afternoon, that can also affect the time he is able to go to sleep. Does he sleep through until the next morning or does he require your help to get back to sleep at night?

I can't remember exactly when the later bedtimes started....most likely when the arrival of the new baby and then the weaning of the paci about a month later.

DS wasn't consistantly sleeping through the night til the next morning but was doing ok.  Sometimes he needed help going back to sleep at night or I just let him climb into bed with me (I know bad habit).  His wake up times vary between 6:30-8am and his naps are about 1:30/2pm - 3:30/4pm.  I use to let him nap 2 hours but recently I have cut it down to 1 hour.  You would think that DS would be tired by bedtime with only a 1 hour nap but he's not.  He just keeps fighting to go to bed.  I don't know what he thinks he's missing.  All the lights in the house are off!!!

I have contemplated giving him back his paci if it helps him to go sleep but DH disagrees.
