A times when on 1 nap
« on: April 08, 2008, 09:48:42 am »
DS is almost 15 mo and had his first one nap day yesterday. Since he is down with a cold I just followed his cues. Now I'm thinking about what his routine will be when he recovers. How much A time should I aim for and do am nd pm A have to be equal? He is a bit of a short sleeper too. AV sleep is 12.5 hrs prior to illness.

Yesterday was like this:
5.20 woke up
11.15 nap, woke up crying at 1 hr mark because of blocked nose, back down for 1 hr 45
woke up happy at 2.15 pm
asleep for the night by 7.20

Today so far:
6.00 woke up
10.35 nap, still asleep at 12.15

Generally A times are around 5-5.5hrs... but if he's only just gone down to 1 nap, I would probably do nap no later than 5hrs A time.

See if he sleeps from 10.30-12.30/1pm... try to have him in bed by 6-6.30pm for the night.

You might also find he will need a 2-day catch up nap for a few weeks until he's solidly on 1 nap (well that was the case with us).

hth a little
Layla

Hi Layla,

thanks! Thats about what I thought.
So far I've been letting him sleep as long as he wants since he's sick and all. When he gets well do I have to limit his naps? He was doing 2 hr daytime sleep on 2 naps. Is this about what he should do on 1?

2hr nap and around 11hrs at night is about av for toddlers. If you see that he can sleep more during the day and still be ok at night, then you don't have to wake him up.

 :)
