When did you cut the sippy of milk before bed?
« on: April 27, 2008, 03:15:41 am »
DS is almost 22 mo and eats VERY well during the day. He gets a sippy cup of milk in the morning with b'fast and then a cup at bedtime. Dinner is at 6-6:30 and bedtime is at 8.  I would be somewhat afraid that if we cut it that he wouldn't be able to get to 7:30am for b'fast. Is there a time when milk "should" be stopped before bedtime? We brush his teeth, but usually BEFORE the milk.

Our DS is 28 mo and he still has a cup of milk before bed. He also has it as a drink with his breakfast.
He is a very good eater but he still loves his milk. I'm reluctant to give it up as it is a vital source of nutrition. Why should it be stopped when it's so good for them?
Carry on - that's what I say!!

We switched from a sippy to a proper "cup" when ds was about 2 1/2. Bought several so he chooses which he'd like that night. He doesn't drink masses (also is a very enthusiastic eater, lol!!) but like Mukta I'm very happy with the extra calcium (he has semi skimmed) and will continue with it until he decides he doesn't want it anymore.

liv is 3yrs 2mo and still has a cup of milk 2-3 times a day including the before bed one. only skips it on rare occassions. having had a bad experience trying to change alex to sippy at 19mo where she actually stopped drinking milk entirely and has never drunk it again, i am not planning on stopping the milk unless liv drops it herself.  she has lowfat milk.

Does everyone use lowfat milk with toddlers?  DD is 24 mos and we are still using whole.

We still use whole milk with dd b/c she is on the slim side, good eater but slim.  DD gets her cup of milk about 1 hr before bed.

i think we switched to low fat (not skim) at about 2 1/2.  she was drinking  A LOT of milk and she still has her tummy (that dd1 did not have at that age and i wonder if all that milkis bloating her or just the extra calories?!). i was buying whole for her, low fat for dh and soy for me so it is nice to have only 2 kinds now so that played a small role too.

we use full fat for dd (4) and ds (1 1/2).  You can switch to semi-skimmed at the age of 2 but you dont have to.  DS only sometimes has milk at bedtime now as I cut it down a bit when he was waking up soaking in the morning.  He drinks plenty during the day and in the evening (juice, water, etc) but I only give him his cup of milk in the morning.
