baby likes to "grind" in her saucer to go to sleep
« on: May 12, 2008, 20:53:02 pm »
my daughter is one and likes to grind herself to sleep in her saucer I assume because it feels good, however, she is now getting to old for it and will have to be taken out of it.  Its the only way we can get her to sleep, sometimes she will just watch tv until she falls asleep and then I put her in her crib.  just wondering how I can approach this and get her sleeping in her crib and putting herself to sleep in that.  Also I know from what I have read and what the doctor says its normal for kids to do this grinding cause it feels good, they don't do it in a sexual way but it still feels nice to them, do other moms have this issue as well, its kind of embarrassing lol

I'd put her in her crib while she's awake so she can get used to being in there, feel comfortable there, and then you might have more luck getting her to fall asleep in there. Once she's more used to it, you could even put her in there when she begins to get tired and see if she'll just fall asleep there in the first place.

Good luck!

BTW, it's amazing the things that will cease to bother you after a while. Spit-up used to make me nauseous - and then I had a projectile refluxer. Now I can catch puke in my hands without blinking  :-X and seeing a little one "exploring" doesn't phase me any more. ;D

There is also a chapter in BWSAYP about sleep issues in the second year that may help - I only read it last night!  It has some case studies on children who were not sleeping in their cot, and what Tracy suggests to help.
