Long nap - is it a problem?
« on: May 27, 2008, 18:13:08 pm »
My 13 week old LO takes 3 - 4 naps/day.  I try for a 3 hour EASY every day.  Most days, we're good!  But, he has started taking a mega nap (2 - 2.5 hours) and I'm concerned that this will upset his feeding schedule and start more night waking.  Should I be?  I can post our "routine" a bit later if it will help.  I write everything down, and it's in his room where he's in his mega nap mode now.

I know I shouldn't complain, and I hope it doesn't sound that way.  I'm thrilled that he's a pretty good sleeper, just want to make sure we keep days and nights in check.

Thanks!

Moving this to naps for you  :)

Tracy advised not to let lo sleep for more than 2 hours at a time during the day as it can take away from night sleep....I have definately found this to be true for us. Sounds like you're doing fabulously, keep up the good work  :)

Thanks for moving - sorry I didn't get in the right place!

I wondered about the long nap robbing night sleep.  He actually slept almost 3 hours today!  I'll be sure not to let him go over two next time.  Thanks for the info.

If it seems to be an habitual thing, yes, I would limit it to not more than 2 hours.  However, if he's been recently unwell, had some sort of upset, or just seems more tired, I'd let him 'catch up' for a few days and roll with it.
