Anything I can eat to help DDs constipation?
« on: May 13, 2008, 12:19:20 pm »
Well, as many of you know DD2 is suffering with reflux.  The Gaviscon is working like a charm but it's also bunging her up quite severely.  We've had days where the constipation is almost as bad as the reflux was before meds...

I took her off the Gaviscon for a 30 hrs and she had one day of pure bliss - she was able to poo (I'd been cutting back the Gaviscon for a week prior to this, and giving tons of boiled water), and her whole demeanor changed.  She was a complete angel baby.  Unfortunately at the 30hr mark without the Gaviscon (had still been giving the Ranitidine), the reflux returned with avengence and the poor little mite had to have the Gaviscon again - she's only just settling down now - 36hrs after giving her the first dose again.

My GP refused to prescribe lactolose as she won't prescribe drugs to combat the side effects of other drugs, unless in extreme circumstances.  She recommended I give DD prune juice.  She's only two months old and the idea of her having anything other than BM disturbs me to say the least!

This (finally :P) leads me to my original question - is there anything I can eat/drink that will get into my breast milk to help DD2's constipation?

A LOT of background for a simple question lol!

Jo, DH was able to buy lactulose over the counter.  If that fails. I have a spare bottle. I'm using it for the King at the moment  ::)

Shelby wasn't constipated, but she started going 5+ days without pooping. I know most babies do, but it still worries you ;)
Anyway, i just started drinking loads of fresh orange juice and she started pooping every 2 days, coincidence ???

you can eat raisins and your baby will poop...I did it and DS went thru several diapers in one day.
