Is she rying to drop a feeding????????
« on: June 02, 2008, 23:40:05 pm »
Skylar is my 3 1/4 month old, she has only been BF. She is doing wonderful, she was 7.5lb at birth and now she has doubled her weight. Here lately she has started skipping feedings. Her days goes as followes.... 6, 8, 10, 12, 2, 6, and 9, then off to sleep for the night. She has sometimes skipper her 8, 12, and 2. Why is this???????

Also sky has always been a very efficient eater only eating about 15min at the most. She has started to bob on an off as well as eat for a shorter amount of time. Is this normal??? :o

Hi!

It is probably time to start moving towards a 3 hour EASY.  The BW book suggests a 4 hour EASY at 4 months, but we stayed at a 3-3.5 hour routine until 6 months.  So maybe start stretching out the time between feeds by 10-15 minutes every couple days.  She will probably take larger feeds if you do.

How are her naps?

She now takes 1 four hour nap in the morning around 6am, another three to four hour around 2pm. She goes to bed between 9:30pm an 11:30pm and she gets up between 4:30am an 6:30am.

I was just looking at my notes from when Jack was 4 months old, and his routine was this--

7am- wake, BF
8.15- 10 nap
10- bf
11.15-1 nap
1-bf
2.15-4 nap
4-bf
5.30- 20-30 min catnap
6 bf(small feed)
7-bf
asleep by 7.30
He was waking sometime between 12-3 to eat, sometimes twice a night, sometimes once.

So I figure he was getting around 7 feedings a day.

I am thinking that she is skipping some daytime feeds because she is trying to make up for night time sleep with those LONG naps.  I would try to shorten the naps, lengthen the night time sleep, and feed every 3 hours.  (Easier said than done, I know!  You will probably have to do this gradually if she is touchy about her sleep.)

I've got to get to bed, but I will try to check back tomorrow.  :)

I would wake her at 2-2.5 hours, or when ever you have to to keep a 3 hour feed time.  Your goal should be 15-18 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period, 12 of that at night.
