Need to shift forward, not working !
« on: June 24, 2008, 12:54:14 pm »
Hi,

My 20 mth old is due to go to pre-school in 2 mths or so and he's waking at 6am making his midday finish at pre-school a bit hairy ! He went on to 1 nap at 14 mths and we've never really gone consistently past a midday naptime. Bedtime is around 7pm or 5.5 hrs max after he wakes from his nap.

He's consistently waking regardless of nap time, length of nap or bedtime. He has canines VERY SLOWLY coming in (and I mean v.slowly like for weeks and weeks !) Yesterday I just had to put him down at 11am as he was miserable and moany all morning. He slept 3.25 hrs !!!!!!!!!!!! Bedtime was 7.20pm (asleep time) and he woke at 6.05am today. So, maybe yesterday was the nap length but how do I fix this for every other day when I just about scrape to 11.45am sleep time for his nap ????

Thoughts ? So far (it's 9.50am here) he's happy today but I doubt I can out him in his crib later than 11.30am again. We just seem stuck in this early cycle and with a 4mth old too (she sleeps 11hrs til 6am-ish too) it's hard to see how to do this. Last year was mostly inconsistent with wakeup times so this isn't new.

Thx,
Deb  :-*

i have the same issues with y 20 month old.  He has always been a early waker and woke between 6:30-7am daily.  Then he goes through these times it's 5:30-6am!  I find it's so hard to figure out the right thing to do as if i go strickly by A times  sometimes it works great and others it's awful.  Then if i go by the clock sometimes it workes great and others not???  AHHHH.... I hear ya!  Yesterday he woke at 6am and when we went for a bike ride at 10am he fell asleep in the bike carrage!  As soon as i realized it i turned around and tried keeping him up till we got home.  SO i put him down for nap at 12:15 and he slept 2hr 15 min!  great!  Bed time was at 8 and he was sleeping for about 8:15 and this am he woke at 6:45!  BUt i bet i will duplicate the A times today and it's won't work at all.....  It's hard as sometimes i go in the car to the store and he will fall asleep with in 10 min and other times he stays awake the entire trip, if he falls asleep it throws everything off for the entire day.

sorry i couldn't be of help but i just wanted to let you know you are not alone! :)

Hopefully we can shift him permanently with a long nap in there somewhere but teething doesn't help.

You are not alone.  I'm having the same issue with ds.  I used to be able to shift his day when he was younger but now it is soo hard.  I hear you about them getting a quick snooze in the car or stroller after 2 hrs of wake up.  DS did that to me twice in the last few days and that was from a good night's sleep.  Go figure!

i know,  you would think all would be clear, that is what i thought.  I thought oh he had such a good night we can go out in the car, and do our shopping etc, then his whole day gets messed up by a 10 min snooze.   i figure no matter how long he naps for today i am putting him into bed for 8pm no later and hopefully he will wake closer to 7am 2morrow.
