My struggle and success with early wakings for 3 year old!
« on: July 15, 2008, 06:37:01 am »
Hi,

Many of you will recognise my name on here and associate me with problems with early wakings.

Our DS turned 3 in April and since then he has been waking anything from 4.30 - 5.30.  It also seemed to coincide with the clocks changing at Easter.

Anyway, knowing that I was due to have a baby early August, I really wanted to nip it in the bud.  I had some absolutely fantastic advice off here, particularly from Lissybits and Stacy, to which I am so very grateful to.

I bought a rabbit alarm clock which shows a picture of a rabbit in bed and when it's time to get up a picture of him up.  Jacob now knows that if the rabbit is still in bed he must stay in bed.  It's worked!!!!! :D  We have the occasional hiccup, like this morning when he wanted to get up at 6 and just shouted from his bed that he wanted to get up!! I ignored him until 6.30 and then went in to him and told him it wasn't time to get up and he snuggled back in bed until his rabbit woke up at 6.50.  I didn't have a very good night last night with this huge bump!!!!  This is such an improvement!!!  I've been gradually moving the time.  Well, I thought he'll be finishing pre school at the end of this week and it would be so nice to stay in bed until 7am!!!!!

For anyone having early waking problems, I would certainly recommend this fab clock!!  Oh, and lots of perseverence!!  They're not stupid and they will work on your weaknesses and keep on and on!!

Thats great to hear! We didn't have the rabbit clock but we introduced a night light on a timer. I also think its a fab idea for toddlers/preschoolers. They need cues to know when its time to wake up, lol.
