Josie had ripe pear, mango and melon from the beginning but we are doing BLW rather than pureeing. I think it very much depends on the fruit.
What are you thinking of?

Hi Doj

I've given my lo raw fruit already - I still give him purees, bu have sort of done a bit of baby led weaning too.....he's had raw strawberries to play with (don't think any went in!), I've given him dried apricots as finger food, and I use raw but frozen chunks of pear, mango and watermelon in his mesh feeder which he loves and sucks on like a icepop!

No adverse affects yet, so I'm hoping the ladies who know will say its OK!

From 6 months (in the UK) you can offer anything other than honey, whole nuts and additives - what you need to think about is how you want to offer it. If you want to offer purees/mashed fruit, then you need soft fruits, so they either have to be naturally soft or you have to cook them until they are.

Otherwise, you can offer them in a whole state (apple rings, apple slices, banana slices, pear slices etc) how much they swallow will depend on how effective they are at self-feeding, and for firmer fruits, how many teeth they have :) at 7 months, your lo's pincer grip is unlikely to be very developed, so larger pieces that can be gripped in the fist and the sticking-out bit gnawed on, will be more effective.

There is some evidence that some berry fruits can be allergenic, so you might want to consider if you have any allergies in close family before offering things from the strawberry family!

I never gave my girls cooked fruit. I did BLW too and they always got the real deal after 6 months old. Of course I always introduced it slowly to make sure they weren't allergic.
