Drinking plenty of milk - can I up the solids
« on: July 17, 2008, 19:25:02 pm »
Hi all

So our last post was worrying b'cos lo wasn't taking enough milk ,and worried we were doing too much solids. Have now started weaning the DF and his daytime milk intake is much much better and well above recommended amount - averaging between 800 - 1000 ml per day.

So, now my question is can I/should I give him more solids? He loves his meals and would eat twice what I give him, which is probably about 2 tbsp for b'fast and lunch, plus 1 tbspn of pudding at dinner. He also gets random finger foods whenever we're eating or as an activity if he's bored....things like dried apricots, a finger of toast, frozen fruit in a mesh feeder etc.

So assuming it doesn't reduce his milk intake, is there a guideline for how much he ought to have? Should I just increase it by a tbspn per meal at a time?

H

As long as his milk intake remains at pre solids level you can try giving him some more solids :)

I would take it slowly so that his tummy can get used to it and also it will allow you to keep a good eye on milk intake x

OK - will do. Its hard to go slow cos he loves it so much - he stuffs everything in his mouth as if there's a world food shortage coming, so its tempting to get carried away. ;D

I kind of forgot about letting his tummy get used to it, bless him.

thanks
