How to stop having to lay with toddler to go the bed.
« on: July 18, 2008, 18:57:43 pm »
Zach my almost 3 yr old was a great independent sleeper up until his brother was born 10 mos. ago.

Two months after his brother was born, it went bad.  He refused to sleep in his own bed and ended up sleeping with me everynight.  That lasted about 4 months or so, now he sleeps in his own bed, BUT....

I or my DH have to lay with him to go to sleep.  Once he is asleep, we can leave the room.  He then wakes in the middle of the night and comes into our bedroom to get me.

So, I don't mind laying with him, but I always ended up falling asleep and DH and I are not getting ANY time together.  We can't even cuddle in the same bed at night.

Any suggestions on how to stop this?  I really want to be able to put him to bed, walk out and go to bed with my husband.

Thanks, Wendy

Have you tried the Gradual Withdrawal Method?  Here's a link - it sounds like it would be just the thing - it's not a quick fix though, but at least it gives you a plan to head in the right direction:

Yes, helps very much.

I let a friend borrow my BW book, so I did not have it to reference.

Thanks for your help, Wendy

We used GW with dd, it worked great and she now will go to sleep on her own with no problems...most nights.

I am marking...she ends up in our bed almost everynight.  Some mornings I dont even remember her comming in, she doesnt wake us up all the time, she just crawls in to bed beside me and falls asleep.  I cant think of a way to "make" her sleep through the night, she never has.  Is there a way???
