9 mo old and one nap
« on: August 05, 2008, 14:35:02 pm »
My 9mo old son has switched from 2 naps to 1, seemingly overnight!
Now lunch time is all messed up.... what do I do?  should I try to keep him on the 2 nap schedule?
He doesn't seem cranky or tired.   All in all he gets about 10-12 hrs at night and 2-2.5 during the day for a total of 12-14hrs.

WAKES anywhere from 6-7am (wish I could get this a little more set but he has ALWAYS been unpredictable here)
BOTTLE when he wakes
BREAKFAST  about an 1.5 later
BOTTLE 4hrs after first bottle
NAP 11:30-2pm
lunch is all screwed up now!!!!...should I try to push the nap to 12:30 after lunch?
LUNCH when he wakes
BOTTLE 4pm
DINNER 6pm
BATH 7pm
BEDTIME/BOTTLE 7:30

Sometimes it feels like all we do is eat and drink around here!!!
Feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks - Britt

Hi Britt.  I am sorry I can't help you - but I am hear to say that I am going through the same EXACT thing.  I think my DS only wants 1 long nap - But I don't know what to do about lunch and I think sometimes he's just not quite ready for only 1 - he gets overtired and miserable.  What used to be easy nap and bedtimes has turned into a nightmare ever since I started experimenting with 1 nap.

Just as an FYI - I moved lunch up from 12 to 11 to accomodate this.

I am frustrated and am wondering if you notice if you LO is very cranky during awake times now that he is cutting out 1 nap.

Hi Britt, you could split the lunch into two portions.  There's nothing wrong with doing this until his nap falls after the noon hour.  As for him going to one nap, if he is fine during the day and getting enough sleep in 24hrs then it is ok.  He is a little young to be on 1 nap but it is not unheard of.

Kristen, if your lo is cranky then maybe consider having a long nap and a short one so that the A times are not as long.  Have a read at this understand the 2-1 nap transition.  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95670.0

You could always do lunch at 11 with a small amount of milk after if he will take it. And give a bottle when he wakes up , you might have to make dinner a few mins early though. I wouldnt push the nap later at this stage especially if your current schedule is working well. Nap time will eventually push later as he gets used to more A time in the morning.

hi
i agree with others to offer either 2 snacks instead of 1 lunch on either side of the nap or earlier lunch and adding other snacks until the nap is after lunchtime.  also, around this age most LOs drop to 3 bottles, so this may help in your feeling of always feeding him...  does he take a full bottle each time?  or is he trying to drop one?

you could try:
7 awake and bottle
8:30 breakfast
11 lunch/snack
11:30-2 nap
2 bottle
3 snack
6 dinner
7 bottle
7:30 bed

Hi, My DS is on 1 nap and has been since that age too.  He does fine waiting til after lunch for his nap most days, but if he wants to go to bed earlier, I just skip the lunch and do it after the nap.  He does have morning tea mid morning (10ish) and I do Bf him before his nap either way.

I would suggest giving him lunch before the nap (could offer some formula in a sippy with that if you like), move the bottle to after then nap, add in afternoon tea in place of bottle and make the bedtime bottle a little bigger?
