These naps just make NO sense!
« on: August 19, 2008, 15:01:01 pm »
Ok so I've been gently extending lo's (8 months) A time to 3 hours and was making great progress- the first day we got to the full 3 hours he had a 1st nap of 2 hrs 15 mins (had to wake him) and a second nap of 1 hr 15 mins -this was more day time sleep than he'd had for a while (he'd been having 3 short naps but after lots of sleepless nights he'd started sleeping through again). That night he woke at 3am babbling. The next day I followed the same A time (3 hours) and he had a nap of 30 mins then funny naps all day and we had 2 NW but he settled quickly. The same has happened again today- 1st nap 30 mins  but the second nap was longer-1 hour 30 mins.

I'm soooo confused! Nothing seems to make sense and I don't know what to try next. Any suggestions?

hi
30 min naps suggest OT and maybe you stretched too much too soon, or with NWs he can't handle 3 hours first thing.

NWs where Lo is up and chatting and just awake do suggest too much day sleep as krissy said.  tracy recommends in her book not to let Lo sleep longer than 2 hours at a time as this can interfere with night sleep. (exception would be if LO is only having 1 nap in a day...i think then this nap could be longer than 2 hours).

shorten up the A time a bit and see if this helps.
