I have twin girls are are 5 months old.  Our pediatrician told us we could start experimenting with solids (starting with cereal) at 4 months.  They really liked the oatmeal and I have gradually increased it.  They are now eating 1/8 cup (sharing 1/4 cup) of oatmeal 2x a day as well as sharing one package of sweet potatoes or squash for "dinner" each day.   Is this too much for 5 months?  They are breastfed and seem to still be eating the same as always with that.  They just have really taken to the solids and seem to enjoy it.  I'm just worried now that it is too early.  Any thoughts?

Every child is different. As long as you go slowly, the babies are getting enough breastmilk, and there's no allergy problems, seems like you are doing fine!

To "Alex mom" above:
Yes, BW does say start at 6 months, but she makes an exception for certain babies who are quite large and extra-hungry, who may need more than just liquids to sustain them.
Cheers.
