10 week old new to EASY
« on: September 04, 2008, 19:43:39 pm »
I am new to this website and to the EASY method.
My name is Sarah, I'm 23 and have a 10 week old son.  I'm trying to start the EASY method with him but he just doesn't seem to want to take naps during the day.  I can see he is getting tired I take him into his room and he just starts screaming and crying even before I put him down.  I can put him in a swing or a vibrating chair and he can fall asleep there.  I'm lucky is he sleeps 3 times a day for 30 mins.  When its bedtime at night tho he takes to his crib with no fuss at all.  He goes down at 8:30 I give him a DF at 10:30 and he wakes up at 2-3 am.  After that he wakes up at 5-5:30 takes another feed then goes back to sleep till 7-7:30. I'm breast feeding so I have no idea how much Camren takes in a feed.  But he's eating about every 2 hours during the day. I'm getting very frustrated and upset that Camren will not sleep properly during the day.  Does anyone have any thoughts or helpful hints for me?  Please help!!

i agree with pp.  at this age LOs need a lot of sleep during the day - even as much as 6 hours in a 12 hour day. usually this is 3x1.5 hours and 1 45 min nap during the day. awake time at this age is only 60-75 min usually.  try putting him to sleep earlier, if you miss the window it can be harder and they resist.  as soon as you see a yawn, even if he hasn't been awake very long head for the crib.

are you familiar with the 3 hour EASY routine in the baby whisperer books?  how do you try to get him to go to sleep?

also, he may be snacking every 2 hours which won't help the naps, try to stretch him out to every 3 hours for feeds, this may help the sleep as well.

hi,
I am aware of the 3 hour EASY that was introduced in the book.  I'm trying to get him into that routine.  Although, it sometimes goes well Camren does wake up usually after 45 min to an hour hungry.  Like you said he is snacking.  I try to stretch him to wait longer for the 3 hour mark but he just cries.  I really don't want to see him upset so I feed him. Before I read this book I noticed we were doing AESY.  Camren is getting used to EASY I just don't know how to stretch out those naps or even get him to actually sleep.  I take him to the crib and he just cries.  I try the pat/shh method, Camren doesn't give in with it.  I'm going to keep trying but I really think he is overtired. Its just hard sometimes, and easy to just give in.
Thank you for your help.

hugs
is he swaddled?  this helped us immensely with getting her to settle down to sleep on her own.  it's also easier to roll them onto their side to do the shh pat.   how are you doing the shh pat.  do you have a good winddown?

if he is waking after 45 min nap crying it may be that he is still tired, not that he is hungry.  have you tried to resettle him with shh pat rather than feeding him?

how long are his A times?  can you post your routine?
