QUICK QUESTION WITH EASY FOR 14 WEEK OLD
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:41:56 am »
Hope someone can give me an answer this morning.

My 14 week old slept through from 10.30pm dream feed until 5.20am (he had 5oz and went back to sleep) for the first time, yipppeeee. But I'm now thrown for what to do. He is feeding every 3.5 hours, however I've never let him sleep in the AM past 8am to start his day, but as he took 5oz should I lethim sleep to 9am (3.5 hours) and then start his day? Then his day will go like this
9am, 12.30, 4, 7.30, would this be OK?

Thanks for your help ???

I was having the same problem w my DD who is now 14 weeks, she was waking at 5:30 to eat, but I waked her at 8:00 every morning no matter what time she ate.  And now she has been sleeping through the night for a week now!!  Hopefully it will continue.

Everyone keeps saying that EASY is a routine, not a schedule. So, I would assume that times don't matter. My 16 week old doesn't do anything by the clock (except I try to keep bedtime about the same time each night) so she just eats when she's hungry and sleeps when she's tired.

At night you just let them sleep for however long they want.
5:20am counts as a night time feed, so you would feed and put back to sleep and then start the day when ever that is (7/7:30/8,etc.)
We always woke dd up at 7am to start her day, if she wasn't already up, to help her body's internal clock.
But, some lo's days start at 8am, so it's all dependent on what works best for your baby and your family.
I am so in love with my husband and adore my precious Grace

I would wake her at the same time every morning regardless of what time she last had her "night time" feed. So if you start the day at 7am & she wakes at 5ish for a feed, then only give her enough to get her through to 7 - so not a full feed, either 1 breast or maybe half to 2/3rds of what her normal feed amount is. If you give her a full feed you may find that she wont take too much at 7am, also she might start thinking that 5ish is the start of the day as shes been given a full tummy. Wake her at 7 & start the day. Having her start times around the same time everyday is what she'll come to remember give or take 30min either way.
It is very tempting to let them sleep until 8.30-9am after a 5am feed.
we were doing the same thing & was suggested this was why he went awol on the routine, some days started at 7-7.30 others 8.30-9 -because he didnt always wake at 5 for a feed he was getting confused.
Try it & see how you go.
