Help needed with 3 mo old EASY
« on: September 09, 2008, 15:23:02 pm »
Hi!
I am fairly new to BW - LO has been on EASY a few weeks now.  He is 3 mos old, and I think he may be spirited but it is hard to tell - he seems like a little bit of everything.  Or maybe so overtired that it makes it hard to tell??  LO is typically getting 12-13 hours of sleep total per day - I feel like this is not enough and he is overtired.

Anyway, we have run into a few difficulties...

We are trying to use a 3 hour easy
LO does not get up at the same time every day (not even close - 4am, 5am, 6am, or 6:30am) so it is hard to get easy started in the morning so that anything is even remotely at the same time of day each day
LO starts to get cranky after about an hour of A time, sometimes after just 45 minutes of A time
LO takes really short naps - 30-45 minutes, so he wakes up too early to eat.  However, it is soooo hard to hold him off until 2.5 hours because he seems to have created an association between wake up time and eating time.  He will scream like crazy until I feed him, even if it has only been 1.5 hours since the last feed.
LO ends up taking 4 or 5 short naps throughout the day, and as the day goes on he seems to get more and more tired and more difficult to get to sleep.  The exception is bed time, which has become very easy - he goes to sleep now without even being patted.

Any thoughts?

Welcome  :D

I think your lo must be exhausted.  Not easy to tell their true temperament when they are OT  :D

So I would try to stick to the feeding times as much as possible for now.  But if it's time to go for a nap don't hesitate to feed earlier.  Let's say 7am is your desired wake up time; if he wakes up before that and you feed him and he goes back to sleep, you need to wake him up again at 7 to start the day no matter what.  Feed him at 7 and put him down for a nap as soon as he needs one (if his tired cues are easy to read ignore the clock and follow him).  When he wakes up, if it was a long nap it might be time to feed him, let him have some a time and back to bed as soon as he shows tired signs, even if his a times are really short.  If it was a short nap try to give him some a time and not feed him straight away if possible.  And keep putting him down for naps to let him catch up on sleep and get out of the OT cycle. Once he is out of the OT cycle, you can try to get back on track with the 3hr easy.
