NWs due to teething won't stop!
« on: September 18, 2008, 19:47:24 pm »
Okay, so the last two nights my 6 month old DS has been waking at night about 5-7 times on avg.  He is congested, but it's clear.  Then, to my surprise, he cut his first tooth yesterday...yipee!  So I thought he'd get back to his normal pattern of sleeping about 10 hours straight.

Last night, the NWs continued.  I thought once the tooth cut, it would get better.  I do notice he's still congested so maybe the tooth is still in the process of cutting all the way through?  The congestion definitely wakes him up.  His crib is already elevated.  The tooth literally just started to poke through yesterday afternoon, so maybe it still needs to come up a bit?

Just so, so tired.  (they need a smiley face with tired eyes).   :-\

Thanks!
Natalie

As long as those teeth are moving, they are bothersome - at least they are at our house!

Congestion is a pain, I don't know if it would work to elevate his bed as you would for a cold?  Also, baby Vicks is helpful.  I rub it on DH's chest at night, when he is stuffed up.  I think you can use it at your lo's age.

Have you tried Tylenol?  That may help.

Hugs and good nights sleep wish to you.

Woooohooo first tooth wish ours would pop threw lol

If I member correctly from DS the tooth will still be moving for a bit and a little bothersome.

We do a little bit of tylenol or motrin at night and a couple teething tablets for DD when her little mouth is bugging her this general helps her settle and sleep threw the nite.  She will still be a bit restless and move around a bit but she never fully wakes up like she does if we don't.

Teeth normally come in twos - so you might get another in a few days!

DD just popped her first tooth.  No NW's until it came thru and then had a couple each night.  I medicate before bed and when she first wakes :)

She's also now full of the cold so is stuffy OR covered in snot during the night.  I feel your pain ;)

Funny you say that, I'm sure Callie has a bump on her gum next to her new, super cute tooth :D

Thanks for the words of encouragement!  Last night wasn't as bad.  He woke at 1am and I was able to sh/pat and within 5 minutes he was back to sleep and then woke at 5am for his normal feed and then back until 7am.  Really it wasn't too bad, so I won't complain.

I guess I was just expecting that once I felt an actual tooth he'd feel better and the NWs would stop and all would be great.  He's my first, so obviously I'm clueless  :-[

I think if the stuffy nose would stop he'd sleep much better.  Sometimes I wonder what I'd have to complain about if he were a good  sleeper.  I'm sure I'd find something.   ;)  The crib is elevated and I gave him Motrin last night for the first time.  Maybe that did the trick.  Not sure.  I'm just scared that the NWs will become habit after teething subsides.  :-\

As much as teething is a pain in the neck to deal with, it's still very exciting.  I cried when I found it.  I'm so excited to see him smile with teeth! ;D

Thanks again!

Oh yes, the teething fun for you has just begun!  We're working on molars at our house...  ::)  DS has a runny nose, and it could be from allergies or teeth, so who knows!

I've found Motrin to be a lot more effective than Tylenol for teething.

I still panic when ds has frequent night wakings - and so far he's always gone back to sleeping through the night fine.  For what that's worth!!

Hang in there!

Offer some meds and some hugs, stick as closely to your techniques as possible but of course sleep will be a bit wonky.  If he's a good sleeper before teething he will go back to it :)

The NWs continue...last night was 3.  Thankfully he doesn't cry, just wakes up and takes a bit to settle.  I wish it would stop soon!  DH is starting a new job and might have to travel, so I'll have zero help.  I'm sure I can do it, but it makes me nervous.  I'm one of those who need a lot of sleep.  If I don't get enough, I wake up sick to my stomach.  Weird, but true.  It eventually goes away, but I'm paranoid about the lack of sleep.  Guess I need to just toughen up and get through it like everyone else.

What a cute little tooth it's going to be once it comes all the way up!  I'll post a photo!

Do you go into him if he isn't crying?

Yes because if I don't go in right away he gets worked up.  If I get in quick enough he goes back to sleep.  I've tried it before several times.  If I wait too long it takes me 45 minutes to get him back to sleep.   ::)
