what is going on?
« on: September 13, 2008, 23:18:02 pm »
today Reagan has taken all 45 min naps and has been horrible going down.  I thought maybe teething, gave her tylonol and it didn't work.  then tried maybe she is getting hungrier since she is a bigger girl and coming up to 6 months... hasn't helped.  I have been going with her cues and she is just having a horrible time.  when I pick her up she falls asleep or cuddles in to me so I kow she is tired but as soon as she is layed down she begins to cry.  she is on a 4 hour routine and is staying awake between 2 and 2 1/2 hours between naps.  she is switching to 2 naps so each day is a bit different.  some days 2 naps and others 3.  I just don't know what to do.  I don't know if this is reflux as she seems content when help but not when she is put down.  I am sure she is probably OT by now which isn't helping.  I'm just at a loss and I'm not getting any break since she wakes crying and wont go back to sleep.  she isn't very happy when awake either.  any Ideas?

Hi

Of course it could be a number of things but..
your story resonates with our last few weeks of teething experiences....  whilst our LO is 10 months a couple of bouts of teething have been exactly like that, he would wake crying and tired but couldn't get back to sleep on his own .. and had to fall asleep on me when otherwise he is an independent sleeper.  He didn't want to be alone in cot and would need to be held until back asleep.  And yes paracetemol didn't seem to work at those times either, I think he just felt miserable as well..  and was needing cuddles from Mumma.  It's very stressful and hard to see LO like that isn't it?

I hope your LO is feeling better ..  that sounds very hard for you.

did you try some teething gel?  Although if the teething is bad that doesn;t seem to help either..   the only way to know if it was teething is to wait for the first swelling of the gum to appear.  FOr our LO that takes two weeks though!!!

this morning was a 30 min nap at church.  now in her room calling out and crying.  nothing is working.  she is so tired.  she just fights and fights.  she kicks me and pushes me and I put her down and she cries.  no burping or anygthing.  is fine being on the foor during A time.  I just don't know what to do about it.  nothing is helping!!!!

Oh hugs Melissa!!  Short naps stink!!!  Her 30 minute naps definitely says OT to me.  I would try anything to get dd to take a nice nap (even if it means AP).  Then slowly increase her A times.  That should help with the 45 minute naps.

If you are unlucky like me, you just have to deal with the short naps until dd outgrows them.  It can be frustrating but it is even more frustrating trying to figure out why the naps are short!  Usually those short naps will iron out around 6 months....and she's almost there...so HANG IN THERE!!

the thing is that they just started.  before she slept great.  she started to refuse her last nap and fight going down and so I thought she was moving to 2 naps.  this was the same thing she did when she jumped A time before.  so I started extending it and everything went crazy!  I know she can't make it to 3 hours yet, so I've justy been juggling things arpund trying to figure out what to do.  Thanks for the hugs, they are much needed!

;D ;D ;D

I wouldn't stretch her too much. Could be developmental too...maybe teeth or some such thing.  I sure hope they end just as quickly as they started!!!
