Sleeping in pram - prop or OK?
« on: September 30, 2008, 15:40:30 pm »
I have been sleep training my DS for his 6.5 months long life...

His morning nap has always been easy - he goes down independently within 10 minutes, sleeps in his cot for 1.5 hours.

His midday nap has always been short, 30-45 minutes - until I tried to put him in his pram covered by a blanket, indoors (he doesn't sleep for long when out and about). He usually wakes at the 45 min mark, but I either put his sound machine on, or just shake the pram a bit, and he goes back to sleep again.

Now, I know that he has got used to this naptime routine, because he cries when I put him down in his cot for this nap (and he cries even more after 45 mins sleep, impossible to extend the nap). I am really happy with him finally taking 1.5 hours for me for this nap, even though the pram has become a prop. But is this something that I will have to "pay" for later, and should I try harder to make him take both his long naps in his cot?? How should I do it??

Hi there!  I wouldn't worry too much about the pram being a prop as long as he is falling asleep independently and he is having a good nap in his crib.  You'll find that when doing the 2 to 1 nap switch, just keep pushing the A time for the morning nap, thereby eventually eliminating the nap in the pram anyway.  I know that's a bit off, but I am just trying to show you that it really shouldn't be a problem ;D
