3 YO Waking Up in Middle of Night
« on: October 04, 2008, 00:46:27 am »
I have GBB triplets who share a room and one of them wakes up just about every night screaming or crying.  My dh or I go in there and he says "tuck me in".  We go in there for fear that he will wake up the other two or our 6 month old.  Any suggestions on how to break this habit?

Lurking.. our 3 yo DD1 does this as well (and we go in because we don't want her to wake up DD2).  Maren occasionally says she has had a nightmare, but often she wants 'one more song'.  It's normally around 5 am.  She no longer naps.  Do your trips nap still? (and please tell me you have lots of family support if they don't!!  ;) )

Mine are still napping for us on the weekend but have been giving the nanny a run for her money during the week.  We live two hours away from family and they come and help when needed.  I am working so this waking up during the middle of the night is killing me the next day.  We are leaning toward me staying home next year though so that I can make sure that rules are consistent.  That has been the hardest thing with someone coming to my house.

The picture of your daughter is precious.  I am still new to this site and do not know how to add the pictures or tickers.

Thanks for responding!

Hi Nancy!!!  Welcome to the boards!  If you take a wander to the Glitches forum, there are threads about tickers and pictures (called avatars).  Several folks can help sizing, rotating ones, etc.
Sleepwise, I'm starting to think it's a 3yo thing.  Mine does this sometimes too.  The last time was she couldn't find "Dawgie" who was tangled in her blanket.  She has the habit of coming into our room when she wakes at night.  And turning on the light this last time.  OWW!!  :)

There seems to be another wave of SA around 3/3.5yo as nearly all my friends have commented about anything from children previously loving daycare to crying, to nightwaking etc. I know we have had our own bouts of it, most of which are related to the issue of dropping his nap.
Is he the more sensitive of the 3? would there be anything that he could get a little more parent time without it seeming he got more than the others? Is he the last or first child asleep/awake in comparison to the others, maybe he has different sleep needs & needs a bit more or bit less sleep. He
One of the books I have talks about telling children how sometimes they haven't grown up on the inside and how that takes time, so maybe bringing that into conversation about how each of the triples has grown up differently with different things & kind of slip in that X (being the one waking up) still hasn't grown up into big boy sleeping as he still needs mummy & Daddy at night like the baby, but I'm sure when he is ready he will. but make sure you also talk about how the other 2 need to grow up in other ways.

Kate, wanna move to South Dakota?  SA makes sense!  Would that also explain some of the "baby' behavior, or something else?
