W2S for time change
« on: November 05, 2008, 11:33:06 am »
Hi-
I've been trying to do W2S to help my almost 2 year old sleep longer after we moved our clocks back this weekend.  She normally wakes at 7, and now it's been 6 (and now of course she's OT b/c I've been pushing her bed times later, and it hasn't caught on yet!)  I've tried W2S 2x now.  I know it's recommended to do it an hour b/f they normally wake up.  Problem is, she's been fully waking, and sits awake for 15-20 mins.  Then when she finally falls back asleep at 5:15, she sleeps exactly one cycle of 45 mins, and wakes up - at 6.  Which is when she was waking up without me trying anything.  Should I try W2S at a different time?  Earlier or later?  I've done W2S several times w/ both girls - had a moderate amount of success w/ it....  I'm really going to mess things up as we're going to see Grandma this weekend, who's in yet another hour earlier time zone!  So maybe i've been pushing her harder than she was ready for....i just don't want to have to put her to bed at 5 pm at Grandmas!
Thanks - Sarah

I don't think W2S is really the way to go.  But, it's a method that I only used once, so there you are!  I think the problem might be that she's waking only 1 hour earlier than normal, so that probably means she's just about got enough sleep in her that it's going to making going back to sleep hard.

My inclination would be to make bedtime earlier for awhile, and over the course of 2-3 days slowly move the bedtime later.  With an earlier bedtime, she should be able to sleep longer in the morning because she won't be OT.  What I typically do is stretch his A time by 15 minutes in the AM and 15 minutes in the PM so that over the course of the day we've moved his routine by 30 minutes, but in small increments that don't cause him to get OT.  Doing it that way, it should only take 2 days to get to your goal!

Anyway, that would be my suggestion.  Maybe a W2S person will have better advice!  :)
