Going To The Allergist Nov 4 -- Question
« on: October 28, 2008, 00:04:18 am »
Okay, so I read in another post that the child needs to show the symptoms of the allergy when going to the specialist??  Is that right, or did I read wrong.  I ask because I'm going to the allergist next week and currently my son is completely clear, he's only on Sweet Potatoes and Neocate currently.  Should I make his eczema and congestion and diarrhea come back?  They never mentioned it in the letter for my appt.

Humm very good question.  I have been told that they have to be exposed to the allergen to show positive, BUT I really don't know how true that is.

In your case, NO... Do not add any of those things back.  I think you pretty much have your answers without even going to the allergist.

Plus, all his could be intolerances (which I doubt), but still.  I would hate for you to re-introduce those offending  foods and cause his body damage again.

BTW:  He is perfectly clear?  :)  So happy for you.

I would not reintroduce the foods that cause reactions as this may cause him to develop a bad association with food. I say this as it happened with my son. We had got to a point where he was on a limited diet and we thought he was doing quite well. It was only when he got chicken pox and would only drink neocate that we saw the difference in his skin once the chicken pox had gone. James's mood was completely different aswell. Then he started eating a small amount of food but picked up a stomach bug. Once he had stopped being so sick he started taking his neocate again but only other food he would eat was raisins. We kept offering him other food but he would not have it. This happened just after he was 2 years old and he is now 4 and things have not improved much at all. His consultant says its due to the amount of reactions he has had and that when he was ill and was neocate only he realised he felt so much better.

I am sorry I have rambled but all I am trying to say is you don't want to chance this happening when you know your ds reacts to certain foods.
