Quick question - solids for 3 weeks & rejecting food
« on: November 04, 2008, 09:07:22 am »
Hi

My Lo is 6.5 months old and has been eating solids for 3 weeks and up until yesterday was loving everything he tried (apart from avocado!).  But yesterday, he refused everything I tried to give him, except baby rice.  This morning has been the same scenario.  My question is what do I do when he refuses food? Do I

a) try to give him an alernative
or
b) dont give him anything at that particular time and try again at the next scheduled solid feed time with something else?

Thanks for any advice

Anna,
It is very common to regress a little bit after introducing solids. This will probably happen on several occasions, and is not really something to worry about. I think you can minimize it by trying to realx about it, just offering the food, and if your lo doesn't want it then no problem.

At this point your lo is just getting the feel for foods, not really getting any nutrition from solids. So it is 100% safe to take his cues on what he is ready for.

One more thing, do you eat with him? If you can, you may want to time your own lunch or dinner when he would have his. Then offer him little tastes of what you have, or let him hold on to something that he can put in his mouth such as a cucumber stick, a rice cake, etc.

Donīt stress over this. During the 1st year, babies are suposed to received most of their nutrients from milk rathen than solids. You can either try to feed him on the next meal, or maybe you could start introducing more things....

As you become more clear about who you really are, you'll be better able to decide what is best for you - the first time around

Thanks for your replies.

Actually I was not stressing about this - honest!  I just was not sure what I was supposed to do.  You'll be pleased to know that meal times here are very relaxed around here and we both have a lot of fun with his food.
