Pre-meal panic
« on: November 16, 2008, 03:47:50 am »
DD is 14 months and has 3 bottles a day.  As soon as she sees me preparing the bottle, she goes into hysterics and cries "bottle bottle bottle bottle bottle..." literally until the second the nipple is in her mouth.  I try to keep her as distracted as possible during the process, but even then, the second I put her in her chair and she sees the bottle, the same thing happens.  You would think I was starving her to death, but she's very well fed and even a little on the pudgy side...

Any suggestions on how I can keep her more calm?  It is stressful enough getting dinner ready for everyone without the background music!

I have one the same age...and she's not so patient waiting for her food either, she likes to yell when the food isn't in front of her or else she's run out.   I've had some success with rice krispie cereal.  The pieces are small and take a bit to pick up and actually eat - it keeps her busy for awhile and she thinks she's eating, but not enough to keep her from eating her dinner.
Good luck...

This sounds very familiar to me too, it actually still happens with luke! (not with bottles but with any food!) like pp, i would try distracting with something like a rice cake if i had to - something that wouldn't spoil his meal.

But really the thing that helped the most was making the bottle/food making into a covert operation. i would do absolutely everything in my power to have him not see me doing the bottle till the cap was going on. i still do this with his pre-bed sippy cup, it takes me 10 min to make instead of 45 seconds because i stagger it in pieces so he will still get ready for bed and not start yelling!
