18 month old HELP! NW and early mornings
« on: January 05, 2009, 20:36:58 pm »
My dd is 18 months.  She is sleeping on a mattress on the floor.  It is going really well other than she wakes up usually once a night and early morning wake up.

She generally gets herself back to sleep without intervention when she has a nw.  Why would a nw be happening?  Also how can I prevent it from happening, if possible?

She also is awakening at 6am (sometimes 5:30, sometimes 6:30).  Help!  ;)

This is her typical routine:

6am (The plan is for 7) awaken, watch cartoon, eat banana, sometime read stories, play
7-7:30 breakfast of oatmeal, usually
          shower/bath, play till lunch
11:30 lunch
12-1 nap
play till dinner at 6pm
pjs and wind down at 6:40
sleep around 7:15

Her NW occur around 2am and she only cries for 5-7 min or less.  This past week she has been having nw a couple of times though.  She is getting molars.  Is that why?

It seems like no matter how late or early I put her to bed she still gets up early.  If I started putting her to bed at 8pm for a few days in a row, would her morning wake up time adjust?

Thanks in advance for the advise.    :)

Molars could be the culprit- have you tried dosing pain meds at bedtime?

It looks like she's only taking a 1 hour nap. That may be a little too short. It would be better perhaps if she could sleep for 2 hours. Then you could try a little later bedtime to see if it adjusted her Am wakings...

I am not sure on how to extend a nap.  She never has been good at going back to sleep once she has awakened fully.  Any ideas on how to adjust things to help the length of her nap?

hmmm. Does she go down easy for naps? Could you try a 12:30 or 1 PM nap instead and see what happens?  I've not been good at extending naps either!

anyone else with wisdom???

My 19month DS is exactly the same except nap time and length varies with no set pattern due to different am wake up. I have tried everything I can think of but nothing works, he too is in his bbb with a bed guard and transitioned extremely well   :o (thank god)
If I get any new ideas ill post and until then will lurk if thats ok  ;)

As ive said before just as you figure them out they go and change patterns again, soooo frustrating lol
