Refreshing my memory
« on: November 22, 2008, 12:44:28 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I am hoping that someone could either refresh my memory or possibly provide some insight.  i have done EASY before as I have an 18 month old and it was wonderful.  With my DD I started at about 3 months with EASY ( as that's when i discovered it) and now i have a DS and he is almost 5 weeks old.  I have been trying my best to stick with an EASY since birth and for the most part its been okay until we get to the nights.  Come 7 pm he gets really fussy and won't go to sleep in his bassinet.  He will only go to sleep in my arms.  As well when he wakes up at 2:30am for a feed he won't go back to sleep.  Any suggestions would help.

I am also going to be posting in the EASY section too as I need to tweak his EASY so I can get a nap in there when both of them are down.

I try to put him down between the cluster feed and his bath but he refuses to sleep.  last night was better when he did nap a little bit so when I put him to bed at 8pm he was fine for about an hour and then he began to fuss...how ever he woke at 130am and was up off and on until 245 and then I fed him.  He then was up for the good part of 3 hours with gas and fussiness.  I got 2 hours sleep last night.  He woke at 630am to feed.

yes i am Bfing, but the naps during the day are wonderful.  That is why i don't understand why there is a problem at night time.

tbh many in fact most babies have a fussy period in the evening or nighttime...did you read that link I gave you?
What I used to do with my LO was give him a short nap around the time of bedtime so around 7ish then wake him after30-45 mins, give him his bath and then put himt o bed. This really helped with the evening OT (it seems to me regardless of how much daysleep newborn have they are OT by the day and all they have seen/heard throughout the day) in the evening. The little powernap helped me DS be rested enough to go to sleep well for the night.
Not sure if thats of any use to you...

I asked about BFing because gas issues can be a symptoms of something you are eating bothering LO. Have you tried colic relief drops? I recommend keeping a food log of what you eat in the day and when he is most fussy to see if you can make any link.

Just wanted to add too that it looks like his first nap is about 3 hours long and his second nap 4.5 hours long. With him being so little yet he should be eating every 3 hours during the day. So if a feeding time comes along and he's sleeping, it's time to wake him. Try keeping those naps no longer than 2 hours. His A time will probably decrease and he'll probably add in another nap, but that's fine.

I have altered his schedule to a 3 hr EASY.  He did better last night as he went until 3:30am from 11pm as his DF.  However he didn't want to go back to sleep.  It doesn't' seem to matter what i eat with him fussing in the evening.  He has missed 1 nap today as he didn't sleep between 930 and 12.  he fed again and then slept from 1ish to 330pm.  it is now 530 and he still hasn't gone to sleep.  I put him down at 445 and he has been up and down since.  i did read the link you provided and if that's the case i have another 2-3 months left of this fussiness.  i would like to be able to do what you suggested but i can't get him to sleep period.  that is the problem.  Any suggestions?  please keep in mind that i have an 18 month old I also am trying to juggle and my DH works nights 3 days a week adn I have no one here to help sunday, monday and tuesday.
