Sleep ?
« on: December 11, 2008, 13:18:33 pm »
Occasionally, dd will take a 2-2.5 hour nap (normal is 1.5 hours). When this happens she goes to bed later - more like 8pm instead of 7. And..she'll wake up very early, around 6am or sometimes a little earlier. Why does this happen?

Here's and example of what happened yesterday/this morning (and a few other days recently):

nap: 12:00-2:20
bed: sleeping at 8pm
wake: today at 5:55am :( BOO!!

Should I not allow her to nap longer than 2 hours? My dh disagrees and says not to wake her but it seems to be affecting both her bedtime and wake up times.

I see nothing wrong with waking her at 2 hours to preserve bedtime and good night sleep.

However, that early waking sounds like OT to me, believe it or not.  When my son has a long nap like that, we keep bedtime the same and sometimes even get an extra long night out of him.  I think those days he's just extra tired -- maybe fighting a bug? lots of activity? reaching a new milestone? Who knows.  You might try keeping bedtime the same or only move by 30 minutes instead of a full hour to keep her from being to OT at bedtime.
