9mth old Nap Routine
« on: December 10, 2008, 09:57:21 am »
Hi all, My lo is moving towards this:
Awake 6.30am
Sleep - 9.30am
Wake - 11/11.30am
Sleep - 2.30pm - 4pm
Sleep - 6.30pm

In order for me to do a 12 hour day this means that his last A time is very short, I am thinking would it be ok to give a cat nap at 2.30pm rather than a long nap?? What way does it work when they get to this age?
Thanks
Amy :)

You're beginning to approach the 2 to 1 switch (many bubs start at 10 mos), so if you find that your lo isn't going down for bedtime because A time is so short, you can certainly shorten that last nap - or extend out bedtime a bit and see what works better.  If it's working and your bubs are going to sleep with that short of an A time before bed, keep at it ;)

we are almost at the exact same routine
wake 630
nap closer to 10 awake 1130
nap closer to 3-430
bedtime 730
so we keep his bedtime 730 no catnap we dropped that right before 8 mos
2x 1.5 hr naps and about 10.5 hrs at night thats what we do if we do otherwise right now like push to 1 nap OT comes and EW comes so we have stuck with this...although if he does get closer to 11.5 hrs of sleep seems his A times are longer and we can push his bedtime...at this age we strive for a 13 or so so hour day

So is it ok at this age to go with a 13 hour day or ideally is the 12 hour day which we should strive for? I read somewhere else on this site that their naps should begin to be at the same time everyday. Is this the case for us? of is he still to young for that?

It really depends on your bub and how much sleep he needs.  Abby's always been on the long end of sleep - and she still loves a 12 hr night.  But I know other bubs who are fine with an 11 hr night.  At this age, the A times begin to get quite long, and the naps are still longish, so lots of bubs are doing more of a 13 hr day just to get all the spacing right.  And  yes, if he's waking at roughly the same time each day, then his naps will be at about the same time (since the A time will be the same) - until he starts to move to one nap, then everything changes - but it's a bit early for that to start, I think - most bubs start between 10 -  11 mos (so you have  few weeks at least!)
