Sudden problems with settling
« on: January 12, 2009, 15:38:44 pm »
Please help!  :( My gorgeous baby boy is eight weeks old. So far he has been a little angel, was always able to settle himself into sleep both at nap time and bed time, is in a 3 hour routine and seems really happy on it. He sleeps from 10pm till 8am every night without waking! and up until last week was great at napping aswell, but all of a sudden he has started screaming when we put him lying down and it takes ages to settle him. Why the sudden change? And how can I help him?

Welcome to BW!! And congratulations on starting BW so early!! You won't regret it!!
As JAY3 suggests, gas could be the problem.  My lo went through the same thing, and we realized he was a silent refluxer.  Have you thought about this possibility?

Have you tried shpat?
If he has silent reflux, the patting on his back makes things worse. But, for us, patting on his bun really helped him settle down.

My LO has had settling problems off and on all her life, she has phases like you are experiencing and then goes back to normal, I swear I do nothing different, I've given up worrying about it, by the time I've worried myself stupid it all changes!!  Just pick an approach and stick with it so your LO doesn't get confused and then I bet it will all resolve itself in a week or so!!  Good luck.
