great eater that is becoming a picker eater
« on: February 09, 2009, 14:56:13 pm »
Hi everybody!

My DS is 21mo and has always been a very good eater. He loved to eat, and eat everything until there's nothing in his dish.

A few Weeks ago, he started rejecting to eat his soup, and I thought it was because he was getting frustrated for not be able to do it well by himself. (The only way that he would eat was if it was by himself, with no help from us...  ::))

But since last week, he started eating much less, and even that amount, it needs much persuasion for him to eat a little bit, and has to be the same food that we are eating (because otherwise he simply won't eat any).

I don't know where my great eater is, and don't know what to do.

Can someone please help me!

Thank you

Hugs

At his age he can eat what you are having. Perhaps he thinks he is missing out?

Hi.
But because of that, since a few weeks ago, he always eats what we are having, and even so, since almost two weeks ago, he has been eating much, much less that what he used to, and the little he been eating is with much persuasion.

Hi

No, he hasn't been ill, and I don't think he is teething. He still misses his canines and 2 year molars, but he hasn't been drooling or anything.

I experienced this with my son when he was around 2 years old. I found it went away after a little while, was like a phase. I tried very hard to introduce new things to him, so that he would eat something---and even though it was not as much as before he did eventually get over it.
Lizwe now has food he likes and dislikes and makes it very known to us! lol..the joys of being able to talk!
Hang in there!

His eating will slow down lots around this age & many 2yo's seem to live on air. Does he have much milk, because if he is having around 600ml (20oz) of that a day then chances are his hunger would be pretty low, he isn't growing as much.
Offer healthy choices & variety & let him decide but don't worry if he chooses not to eat no toddler would ever let themselves starve... you will find he has days/weeks where he eats more/less & that is normal. If he has lots of milk try to cut back on that & see if his appetite for food improves.
My now 5.5yo didn't eat lots around 2yo, & now as a 5yo can eat more than me for dinner.
