15 month old with a nap and bedtime issue
« on: February 15, 2009, 01:05:35 am »
Hi all. PLEASE HELP. My DD thinks EVERYTHING is a toy. So after wind down time before her nap or before bedtime she wants to take everything with her into her crib and sleep with it. I clearly do not want her to hurt herself, so she is not allowed to take certain things into bed with her. However she carries on and on and ON AND ON crying - there goes the nap and she goes to bed SOOOO much later than she should be. HOW do I stop this?!  WI/WO does not work - it makes things worse. She has blankies and a stuffed toy, but she ONLY wants her toothbrush, hairbrush, bottle, picture frame, my gum wrapper (not kidding), etc, etc to take into bed with her. This is really frustrating me! (and my little one too).

Thanks!

Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They can be so cute, but soooooooooooooo frustrating can't they!
Don't really know what to tell you, except maybe you could make where you do wind down really bland boring, and hide anything in the vicinity which could attract her?
They are at the age now where they are testing their boundaries. I'd just be explaining to ther, that bed is not for play time, and these things aren't for going to bed. Present her with a couple of options that are for in bed, and let her choose...sometimes if they get a choice it helps avoid the tears.

Sorry - lame answer I know.
Thinking of you though!

Thanks! I think I will put together a basket of stuffed animals and blankies that she can choose from. Also, I think I need to start saying no to things more during the day and NOT giving in so she learns no is no.
