Too much A time? And early wakings
« on: March 15, 2009, 15:06:00 pm »
I've been debated about which board I should post on so if this needs to be moved please do!  DS is 12.5 months old.  I was looking at the sample EASY board to see if we were on track and I noticed he has a longer A time and I'm wondering if that is part of our issues.  Here is our routine

6-wake up would like it to be 7!
10-nap sometimes wakes up after an hour goes back to sleep and will sometimes sleep for another hour
1130-12 wake up
330-nap this one is usually only 40-1 hour
430- wake up
8- supposed to be asleep but hardly ever is

So here are our issues:  Is his A time too long for his age?  I think he probably should go to bed at 7 rather then 8 but I'd really like him to get up at 7 rather then 6!  If he goes to bed at 7 he doesn't get to see DH very much on days he works.  I think he may be constantly OT because he seems to be tired from the time he wakes up.  I can never get him back to sleep when he wakes up from about 530 on so I normally just get him up.  He sleeps through the night for the most part from 8 or so until 530-6.  Yesterday I tried not letting him nap for so long in the morning to see if it made any difference and it didn't.  We are all sleeping much better then we were 6 months ago so I don't want to complain too much!  I would really just like him to seem better rested (even if that means he goes to bed at 7 and wakes up at 6!) Any tweaks to the routine would be greatly appreciated since I think it's a bit off after looking at the samples.

Hello, I'm bumping this post for you, I'm not sure how much help I can be :-\

What does jump out at me from your post is that, imo, bedtime is a little too late. I'd say in bed for no later than 7pm, he's getting overtired because of this, I think (the early wake ups could be because he's going to bed too late - overtiredness can cause this, you'll often find, early to bed means getting up later).

It may be that he's on his way to transferring to one nap, and you need to cut down on the second nap, in order that the nightime sleep is preserved. I'll look up some links for you
Caroline :)

Thank you for your help!  After my post was moved I started looking around and realized that's probably what it is.  I can't believe it's already time to post on the toddler board!  He's not walking yet so he's still a baby to me (which I'm sure he'll always be!).  I think maybe his internal clock is just set to wake up around 6.  I've started trying to get him to bed earlier.  We also have issues with me having to stay in the room until he's asleep so I'm trying to read up on that when I have time.  Thanks again
