Dunstan Baby Language
« on: March 18, 2009, 09:36:47 am »
anyone heard of this? was reading about it and it seems quite good, apparantly babies say "Neh" when they are hungry, my lo doesnt usually get to the point of having to say anything cos we feed him every three hours but perhaps i should leave off and wait for him to say it as he isnt taking his bottles at three hours anymore so perhaps hes not hungry, he is only 2 months old

Im getting a little worried about this not eating issue (he is thriving and hte nurse is happy with him) but he is waking after an hour of sleeping but doesnt want to eat, not even if he only had half a bottle three hours ago, we had such a good thing going and now this!

I have not heard about Dunstan Baby Language.

With regards to your lo only taking half a bottle.  What size teat are you using?  Do you think that your lo could be bored with the flow and ready for the next stage up teat?

Also if you post your EASY routine, we can have a look at it and try and help you tweak your routine.

E - how much
A - how long
S - how long including your wind down routine.

well somedays his start time is 7.30 and other days its 8am, im trying to get him stuck at 8am but he doesnt always make it hence the different wake up times. i will post a 7.30 routine. I wait for his tired signs, sometimes he can only stay up 45mins before they appear

E: 7.30 wake up and feed
A:
S: 8.40

E: 10.30
A:
S: 11.10

E: 1.30
A:
S: 2.10

E: 4.30 feed
A:
S: 5.05 catnap

6.20: Bath
6.45 feed (if we do a feed first its too early and he wont take it, as it is he barely takes it at this time as well)
S: 7.30 bedtime

E: 10.30 dreamfeed

E:4am - 5am somewhere in between he has another feed

Thats a rough routine from when he sleeps the full two hours. Yesterday at the 3rd nap he woke after 1 hour and we were in there resettling him and he would wake up again after being asleep 10mins, so we would be resettling with pat/shh and white noise and he would fall asleep then keep waking up, so we got him up for 10mins after the fourth wake up and he wasnt going back to sleepand just had some cuddles and tried again and the same thing kept happening. still he wouldnt take a full feed when he woke up. He does take a full feed at the dreamfeed and wakes at 5am for another feed though. We have gone up a teat size, he is already on the medium flow for a 3month old, thats with the Tommee Tippee anti colic bottle which he takes fine at night but prefers the Avent bottles during hte day.

Ok today we have an 8am wake up, im about to go and get him up and give him a feed. lets see what he takes!

I have the dunstan baby language dvd. Apparently though, every baby makes these same sounds when they are born, but only keeps up those sounds if you are responding to them correctly. For example, if you don't hear the 'neh' sound for hunger, the baby may learn to use another sound or cue to let you know he is hungry. We struggled with hearing the exact sound Wes was making and eventually he lost those sounds and used cues that worked for all of us.

I watched it and thought it was good that first couple of weeks, but then we got into the swing of EASY so have not really thought about Dunstan since then.  I do feel that it helped those first couple of weeks though.

well he took  only 50mls and then we put him to bed (after A time) he woke an hour later making that "Neh" sound so we got him up and he polished off a bottle. Have had a weird day though, took him to the dr and he has a red sore throat from stomach acid so she said get lact free formula, infant gaviscon and infant panadol and let him demand feed today to see what he does. We did this and bang on four hours he got grizzly so we fed him and he polishd off the whole bottle again, has never done this before, so perhaps we let him demand feed until his throat isnt so sore and then go back to 3 hourly??

We got the Dunstan Baby Language DVD's and LOVE them.  My lo has A LOT of wind and it helped us quite a bit when she would wake up crying...we knew when she needed to burp or had lower wind.  We were on EASY so didn't really need the neh sound as much but used all the others and LOVED knowing what she needed.
