Hey binxy :)
Thanks for that about the three meals, good to know Im not alone there.
Hi Nicole :)
LOl my DD can definately manipulate a little - the doctors told me thats what she's been doing with food. But like if I take her to play park etc and start to finish off on the swings or whatever she has a huge hissyfit hee hee... definately knows what she's doing lol.

Ok so somethings really bugging me. One week ago we went to a big zoo and we went to a picnic place. I got out atlantas spegetti Id already made her and she wouldnt eat it. Thats fine- she wont normally touch lunch. But Then i notice a baby which is definaltely younger than her eating a hot dog in a bun. Its been playing on my mind all week. I cant get atlanta to eat a banana finger or soldier of taost let alone something like this. The baby then eats from a packet of Quavers. Now I know this babies hotdog and bread and crispas isnt the most nutritious but still - shoudl we be at this stage???
All week Ive really pushed the finger foods -bread, croisants, fruits, vegetarian hams, vegetables etc but apart from a little lick there was no way it was getting eaten (although she was feeding me a bite).
How do I make finger foods work? By one year old surely they should be able to feed themselves something? Its not her dexterity its that she doesnt bite a bit off, she doesnt chew, she doesnt swallow..... any ideas please ???
Cheers girls

Each baby will progress at her own pace. The baby might have been eating chunks from the get-so - believe it or not, there are babies (and kids!) who WILL NOT eat pureed stuff, who need to have something more substantial to chew on, like for sensory feedback. That would be a different kind of sensory issue.

Babies will happily suck down Coca-Cola through a straw, too - except for Josie, who has never liked fizzy drinks, which annoys the heck out of my IL's who keep trying to get her to drink sodas!  >:(

If she's feeding you, that's a start; she's still getting the practice at finger dexterity. Any way you can bite half of what she feeds you and have her eat the half-piece that's left? Might be worth a try.

I agree with deb, she'll go at her own pace. My ds ate grapes, apples, chunks of food, much to my mothers horror. SHe'd be standing over him saying 'omg, he's going to choke on that' , now he never did but he was confident and so was i. But on the other hand I am totally different with my dd and she is totally differetnt about food too. Guess what I'm trying to sy is that thay are all different and there's no point beating yourself up about it by comparing her. SHe's doing so well, she will get there. Sorry for that ramble, am shattered and its way past my bedtime xxx

Hey Lucy!

Sorry haven't been about in ages!  I wouldn't be worrying about finger foods at this stage.  Considering she's only started eating regularly and drinking milk recently, it will just take time!  Try and enjoy her eating something as you did that by yourself and you should be so pleased!!

My LO is 11 months and eats some finger foods-toast squares, pancakes, rice cakes, muffins (so basically breads!) and will not touch veg which irritates me no end!  I stand chopping and steaming veg and then she takes one look at it and throws it on the floor!!  Same with fruit!  Have no idea why!  But she gets enough from her spoon feeds so I don't worry from a nutrition point of view.  Think Atlanta just needs to become more confident...as you said its not her dexterity.

I was always a bit concerned about Maeve until she managed to get a biscuit the other day and I had never seen finger control and chewing control like it!!  Perhaps give Altanta something more appealing (like those cookies from Tesco!) and see will she feed herself it!  That might put your mind at rest about the biting and chewing!  I think Maeve is just a bit lazy to eat things she's not that crazy about!  Well why would you if your mummy is sitting there with a spoon!  On the other hand she is mad keen to eat whatever I am...wouldn't touch her pancake or stew the other day when we were having lunch and was shouting and pointing at my plate.  I gave her my tuna sandwich and have never seen her eat like it.

All about motivation i reckon!!

Any word from your health visitor by the way??

I completely lost my train of thought and don't remember what I wanted to post the last time I was on this thread.

Anway, I don't remember if I gave you this link before or not, but there is some great info on here http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/toddler/feeding_your_toddler.html I used it when Riley was a toddler, and went back to it tonight to get ideas for Kate, who is back on her no eating kick again. It is reassuring to read just how little they do need to eat to get all the nutrition they need!
Also, this thread was great for me too, you probably have seen it already http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=71906.0

*I apologise if I have said all this before, my memory is shocking lately!*

Hope all is well!
