our feedign routine is basically the same as yours at the moment
I am waiting for Alex's cues to tell me he is ready to drop a bottle- Sophie dropped one around 7.5mo. Basically she cut right back on the amount she was taking from each bottle, sometimes as little as 2oz. That's when I dropped the 11am bottle and she went back to taking 7-8oz from each.
If he hasn't dropped a bottle himself by 9mo then I shall do it anyway!

Yes, same happened with my DS at about 8 months - he started drinking only 3 or so ounces, maybe three or four days in a row, from his 11am and 3pm bottles. Then a few days later even started cutting down to 6oz at his 7am and 7pm. I dropped the 11 and 3, instead giving milk right before his nap at about 1pm, and he started taking the full 8 ounces from the three bottles.  I would wait until your LO starts decreasing the amount s/he takes in the mid-day bottles and then combine them into one.

Thank you!  :)
He has basically cut back and is taking roughly 5-8 oz at his 11 and 3 feed, and he has also cut down the df to 2-3 oz so Im thinking he could maybe do without this but tried last week and had a truly horrendous night so Im too much of a chicken to do it again until he's on 3 proper meals a day!

Im also concerned that the df is starting to disturb his sleep as he's started to wake after his df and half heartedly cry for 15 minutes!!

I would wait until the DF is cut out before you cut the daytime bottles.  Once you cut the DF, he should make up those extra 3 ounces in the day.  When my DS started only taking a few ounces at his DF, I started moving it earlier - so 9pm one night, 845, then 830 and then just stopped it.

Was your lo on 3 meals a day when you dropped the df?
