I did formula one time for DD in the sippy, which she got excited about when she realized what it was. Also the first time I let her have a lil juice mixed with her water she got really excited as well. She enjoys just plain water. I just felt like getting her filled up on unnecessary calories from too much juice would interfere with good milkfeeds.

Thanks ladies!! So I'll definitely give my lo some water!! I have the Avent training cups, do you have any experience with these? I think the "nipple" is sprout proof.

Alexa, are you breast feeding?  If you are still breastfeeding and feeding on demand (well demand-ish at 7 months lol), then you don't *need* to offer water unless you notice that nappies aren't as wet as they should be.  The only time that a breastfeeding mum should offer water to her lo is when that lo is over one year or if you live in an extremely hot climate.  HTH

Yep, offering water is a great idea then!  I had to give DS water from a really young age as he got badly constipated when we switched to the bottle :)

I introduced sippy at 7m but DS wanted nothing to do with it at first.  I just put it away and tried again every few eweks until he showed some interest.  It wasn't until he turned 1 that he took some interest.  Now at 14m he eagerly drinks water from it at every meal/snack time.  He still won't take milk from it yet though...

For a while between sippy cup introduction and acceptance, he thought it was hilarious to drink out of a cup.  I would hold the cup and tip it to his mouth and he would drink water happily.  Now he's more into the sippy cup cause he can hold it himself but will drink a sip or 2 from a cup if sippy/s not available.
