How old was your toddler when you stopped milk???????
« on: April 17, 2009, 09:48:16 am »

Hello everybody!

I was just wandering how old ( on average) your toddlers were when you stopped giving them milk?
My 13month DD has completely refused cows milk as a drink( in bottle or cup) but will still take formula x2 day. Am and Pm. Although, recently she has been only taking half of her AM bottle (usually has 7oz) but still really enjoys her PM bottle.

Questions????

is it because she is gradually weaning off it in her own little way?

is it ok/safe to do so? (although i cant make her drink it!)

anybody else experiencing this?

just for the record...she has cows milk on her cereal everyday, a yoghurt at least once every day and i try and slip some cheese in her meals or give it to her as a finger food which she loves!

Would be good to get some advice here!

Thanks
x

Hi,
Just a thought but have you tried gradually switching from formula to cow's milk - so if you make a 7oz bottle have 1oz cows milk and 6oz formula mixed together for a few days, then 2oz cows milk and 5oz formula for a few days and so on... I have read of other mums on here doing this if their lo won't drink cow's milk straight away. It might be worth a try.

My lo is 21 months and he still has 8oz milk in the morning and 6oz in the evening (but then he has always loved his milk  ::)).

I can't remember off the top of my head how much milk they should be having at 13 months but hopefully someone else will be along in a bit that can help with that.

HTH

Not sure if this will help but my 13 month old has a beaker of cows milk (7-8oz) in the morning and a bottle of formula at night (8oz).

If I offer him milk at any other time of the day he isn't interested at all, he will only drink juice during the day from his cup

Over 1's still need 500ml of milk or the equivalent in dairy products - cheese, yogurt etc.

Toddler milk formula is available and suggests upto age 3 so I'm sure your doctor will still prescribe your milk for you - If you post on the boards for reflux/allergies I'm sure the mums with older refluxers will have some advice on what they did.

Hi guys, my LO turned one in march and on his birthday I put him onto cows milk. However he then got a cold and my doc said to keep him on the follow on formula until he is 3.
He takes a 7oz bottle in the Am and the PM - however he only drinks half of the AM bottle, but i offer it to him again about an hour later and he normally drinks it then!

Hope this helps

If your LO takes in enough calcium from other sources they don't HAVE to have any cow's milk - but you must be extremely careful to meet those calcium needs. Take a look at this:
